Aphantasia continued – Monday 12th August 2024
I have only recently learned this condition has a name, but I have experienced it for most of my life.
I have something very much like a photographic memory, which may set me apart from others with this condition.
Previously, when asked to imagine a pink elephant, blank. But if I have seen a cartoon picture of something eg., a pink elephant, that’s what will very quickly flash through my mind.
So if I was asked to imagine an apple, I would see a quick flash of an apple I have seen.
So if others with aphantasia cannot utilize an image they have seen of an apple, how do they recognize an apple when they see one?
Aphantasia in my case, was a function lost via regression related to variant form of Rett Syndrome.
