Rett Syndrome – Circulation and Rigidity – Sunday 4th June 2023
I was reminded today and thought I would note the following.
This is based on my personal experience. Most of my life I scrunched my legs underneath me when I sat down. Which isn’t an uncommon thing except that I did it every day and whenever I sat. Years later it occurred to me that I was interfering with my blood circulation. I believe this resulted in increasing circulation compression to the rest of me. So it may be worth thinking about if your child scrunches their legs beneath them at length and seem compelled to do so. It is brain driven, not a thought of activity. (In my case)
Also, decades ago, I would tell people of muscle tensing in rigidity so that the muscles are in constant tension, (not flexing) and that too was brain driven. It resulted in assisting my focus so that I could take in information and it also assisted function. And there is no question of it, to my mind because when/if I consciously un-tensed and relaxed my muscles with the rigidity, the effect was virtually instant. By the end of my day it was quite tiring. Even now my back is constantly muscle tensed and rigid.
