Rett Syndrome – Pain and Warming Cold Feet – Friday 4th November 2022

Many years ago I had cause to run out on the wet lawn in the morning in bare feet. Shortly, my feet went pink and warm and after that I would do that every so often for the same result. The response system is functioning in Rett Syndrome and this can be very helpful for the feet in general. The skin benefits from the circulation. As well as the comfort it provides. It only takes a couple of minutes to achieve too.

Pain. There are multiple issues involved and it also depends on the age and stage of development and each person’s specific Rett syndrome.
Those children with very little movement, physically showing they have pain is a challenge.
Those children who have good movement but have significant delay may be able to show some indication they have pain but can’t indicate where or what. Then there is pain that takes a time to process for example you could have a fracture but until the messages from body to brain get there, it can look like the person felt no pain from the incident.
And then for some while experiencing pain it can be difficult to indicate their pain at the same time. So there are these and other facets occurring that can obstruct the ability for a person with Rett to indicate their pain and it might appear they aren’t experiencing pain, but my experience was that I felt pain but at different times of my development I experienced the above issues that affected my ability to let my parents know.
